Our Mission
Coffee houses were meant to be gathering places. Comfortable, familiar, relaxed places where you could enjoy the company of others. Our mission is to serve great product whether it’s a cup of coffee or a delicious glass of wine. Our goal is to provide a friend operated business. A familiar place where one hangs their hat and is greeted with warmhearted service. Surrounded in a quaint, homemade atmosphere that instantly conjures nostalgic emotions of bygone eras and mystic far off places. We take pride in our shop and hope to provide our patrons with this unique and intimate experience.
We look forward to your stopping in to say hello!
Our Green Mission
We are Bright Green. We see protecting the environment as a personal responsibility. When you visit our shop you can clearly see how we have implemented “Reduce – Recycle – Reuse” in every detail of our business. Even our courtyard is an organic garden. Our supplies are purchased in St. Louis from locally manufactured, small, family owned, “mom & pop” type businesses. We support our local economy and the local small businesses that make up St. Louis. Obviously, coffee is not grown in St. Louis, but 100% of our beans are USDA Organic, Fair Trade and Rain Forest Alliance Certified and our grounds are composted. We search for the best “green supplies” such as green packaging/bulk requirement, biodegradable, recycled post consumer products, eco-friendly goods, energy efficient, energy star and locally manufactured products. We believe radical changes need to be made in every facet of society in order to make our environment sustainable. “Green is definitely the new black,” it’s a lifestyle choice that we work and live by and will continue to improve upon.
Our History
We are currently researching our History; A historical survey of the building and land parcels which make up the current site of The Map Room. Our goal is to provide a detailed chronicle of the property owners, the businesses that have occupied the space, historical events that are pertinent to the property, old photos, old maps and any other information that we may uncover in this search. Through a commitment to historic preservation, our ultimate goal is to discover the people and their culture, and to learn how The Map Room fits into our place on the planet. We hope to maintain its charm and diversity in order to share this area’s architecture, hospitality and old-world flavor.
Our Community
The Map Room is nestled in the heart of the largest National Historic District in St. Louis, Missouri. We are on the corner of Lemp and Withnell Avenues directly across the street from Cherokee Park in the small Benton Park Neighborhood. The neighborhood has four parks including Benton, Cherokee, Carnegie and Fremont Parks. Benton Park is a charming, cultural beauty. It is city living at it’s best, less than 3 miles to downtown St. Louis and walking distance to a multitude of restaurants, shops, outdoor recreations, and community events.
